+ American Vehicles Required for a major film (16/08/2011 - 12:07:46)
+ AUGUST 2011 (16/08/2011 - 12:01:07)
We are currently working on our latest project which is a major film being shot in England.
2011 saw us celebrate our fifth year in the industry and although not as busy as in previous year's we still managed to make a bit of an impact over the year.
This month has been pretty quiet.
We are delighted to see that three of the major productions we were involved with in 2009/2010 have been nominated for Scottish BAFTA awards.
You will no doubt be aware that Halle Berry was in Glasgow in September filming a major production called "Cloud Atlas".
We urgently require a large number of pre 1973 American vehicles for part of a major film that will be shot in Glasgow over the weekend 17 & 18 September 2011.
Principal filming for the BBC production "Young James" finished on 8th. August. Action Vehicle Agency was heavily involved in this production and we were able to supply all of the period action vehicles including 3 trucks, a number of cars, both "Hero" and dressing and some pushbikes.
Action Vehicle Agency have been busy on the filming front recently.
We are delighted that Daniel Rigby won best male actor category in the BBC production "When Eric met Ernie" at the BAFTA TV awards in London on 22nd. May. The production was also nominated in the best single drama category.
Things have been pretty quiet over the last couple of months but are beginning to pick up now.
We have just returned from a cast and crew screening of "The Field of Blood" the production which was commissioned by BBC in the autumn of last year.
Set in 1982 and starring Peter Capaldi, David Morrissey and Ford Kiernan amongst other well known faces it was filmed entirely on location in the north of Glasgow.
It has a great story line, some excellent acting and a great soundtrack...oh and the vehicles look good as well!! The BBC have high hopes for this production and the two one hour episodes should be on screen soon.
We have been approached about some other interesting productions that are due to start filming in Scotland and the North of England over the next few months, so watch this space.
We hope everyone had a great Christmas and Good New Year.
Things are still very quiet on the Film and TV front, however that is normal for this time of year. It's good to get a rest though after the hectic season we had in 2010.
At the beginning of the month we were involved in the making of a new commercial for IRN BRU and supplied a double deck bus for one of the scenes.
We are currently working with a company who will be making a horror based film shortly. The film is set in Eastern Europe and we will be supplying a Trabant as well as some other vehicles.
If you have been watching much TV lately you may have seen "Eric & Ernie" which was the big New Year special on BBC 1 and "Hattie" which was shown on BBC4 a couple of weeks ago.
"Eric & Ernie" was shot in September and October last year in Morecambe and Stockport.
A lot of people have been asking about the locations for "Hattie" which was shot entirely in and around Glasgow. The "Glamcabs" scenes were shot at The Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Federation premises at Fordneuk Street, Glasgow and the interior and exterior house scenes were in Royal Terrace just of Sauchiehall Street.
The film "Neds" is doing the rounds in the Cinema just now and getting very good reviews.
Recently we have been asked to give couple of talks for local clubs. this is something we are delighted to do. These talks, which are accompanied by slides, are interesting and give an insight into using your vehicle in the film and TV industry. We are more than happy to come along and give a talk to your club or group. If you are interested please get in touch.
2010 has been another great year for Action Vehicle Agency.
As well as being involved with 3 major films, "One Day" (starring Ann Hathaway), "Laid Off" and "The Awakening" we were also chosen as vehicle Coordinators for the 2010 season of Taggart for STV.
We were also involved with a number of major BBC productions this year including "Single Father", "Hattie", "Field of Blood" and "Eric and Ernie" as well as sourcing vehicles for "Gary Tank Commander", "Case Histories" and "River City".
"Eric and Ernie" "Joe Maddisons War" for ITV and another production for Sky TV "The Giddy Kipper" were all filmed in the North of England and we were delighted to have been able to supply vehicles for all of these productions.
Commercials this year have included the John Lewis Christmas commercial, a big budget commercial for Raymond James, an American insurance corporation and the current BT vision commercial.
We have also supplied a number vehicles for photoshoots including one for Marks & Spencers.
Famous names we have worked with this year are David Tennant, Ruth Jones, Ann Hathaway, Ken Stott, Victoria Wood, Vic Reeves, Ford Kiernan, Peter Capaldi, Brian Pettifer and Gavin Mitchell, not forgetting the "Taggart" cast of Blythe Duff, John Michie and Alex Norton.
One of the more interesting vehicles requested this year was a tank for "Gary Tank Commander". We were able to source a genuine Chieftain tank, however, the cost of transporting it to Glasgow for filming was prohibitive and in the end we supplied an armoured personnel carrier which looks like a tank, along with a transporter.
The oldest vehicle we supplied this year was a 1900 pushbike for the Raymond James commercial. Cars ranged from early twenties models for the film "The Awakening" to a 2010 Lamborghini for an episode of "Taggart".
We are looking forward to 2011 and have had enquiries already for some exciting projects.
Finally, we would like to thank everyone who has been involved with us this year, as without your help and enthusiasm we would not be here. Have a great Christmas and prosperous New Year!!
September has been another busy month for us.
We are now sourcing late seventies and early eighties vehicles for a TV drama due to go into production in October.
We have plenty of cars available but have been specifically asked for an ice cream van, grocers van plus a number of vans including a Ford Transit. If you can help please get in touch.
July has been an exceptionally busy month for us.
Things have been very busy for us over the last couple of months.
In late May we completed the BBC 3 production of "Hattie" where we supplied a number of period vehicles including 3 Mk1 Ford Cortina's for a "Carry on Cabbie" scene.
We have also just completed work on a feature film called "laid Off" which was filmed on location in Saltcoats, Johnstone and Glasgow. Action Vehicle agency supplied and managed a number of vehicles for this production.
The John Lewis Christmas commercial has just finished filming in Edinburgh and Action Vehicle Agency supplied a car and coach for this production.
We also recently supplied a classic Mercedes estate car for a photo shoot in Edinburgh.
Ongoing productions include a major production set in 1921 and being filmed in Edinburgh, Stockport and London.
We are currently sourcing vehicles for another major production, part of which will be filmed in Edinburgh at the beginning of August. The film is set in 1988 and we are looking for early to late eighties cars. If you have something that you think may suit please get in touch.
We are about to begin the third and final block of the latest series of Taggart. There will be six new episodes in all and we have been privileged to be involved with such a brand.
We also recently sourced, supplied and delivered a "Del Boy" Reliant Robin van for a film being made at "T in the Park"
Many thanks to all those of you who made it to Blairdrummond Safari Park for their 40th. Anniversary celebrations at the end of May. Everyone enjoyed their day and the park management were delighted with the display that was put on.
During the last couple of months we have been working on a major new BBC drama which is in production in Scotland. The main character, played by David Tennant, rides a motorcycle and Action Vehicle Agency have sourced and supplied a rather tasty Triumph Bonneville T100.
We are also sourcing period vehicles and caravans for another BBC production about to start filming in Scotland. If you have a late fifties/early sixties caravan don't hesitate to get in touch.
First of all apologies for a technical hitch on the website which means that the text on the gallery images can't be read. It is there, but for some reason it has changed to a lighter colour which makes it illegible. I've spoken to the web host who tells me that this is due to an update causing the problem on a few sites. I'm not too happy about it as it means I have to go through all of the images manually and update them. Oh well!!
In February we sourced a lobster fishing boat at Dunbar Harbour, East Lothian and assisted in the making of a corporate video for The Bank of Scotland. I also got a part in the video posing as a local fisherman with financial problems, nothing new there then!.
This month we have ventured south of the border and assisted with a production currently filming in Newcastle. It is a feature length drama for ITV called "Joe Maddison's War" and set in World War II. It will star Robson Green and Kevin Whateley and Action Vehicle Agency were pleased to assist in supplying military vehicles including a Vickers Anti Aircraft Gun.
With the arrival of the pushbikes I mentioned last month space was tight for the Triumph Spitfire which had to be put outside, so the decision was made to put it on Ebay. After only one day the car was sold for the asking price and made it safely, under it's own steam, to Bolton in England. The new owner is delighted with his purchase. Just like the thing however, the Spitfire gets sold and the the weather picks up, still the Vitesse, which is beginning to look a bit forlorn, will no doubt be dug out of the garage soon to get ready for the season. I am in the market for another classic, anything considered. So if you happen to read this and you know of anything interesting please let me know.
We've had one or two enquiries for productions that are coming up but nothing major yet. The industry seems to be the same all over Scotland just now but hopefully things will pick up soon as the weather improves.
We hope that everyone had a great festive season and the recent inclement weather didn't cause too many problems. Let's hope we get a decent spring and summer and we can get the classics out in force.
Just before Christmas we purchased a 1971 Triumph Spitfire Mk4. It's had some restoration work and benefits from overdrive, hard top and is tax free. Unfortunately the weather hasn't been favourable but we've managed to get it out a few times and it performs very well. Haven't decided yet whether to keep it or sell it on. If you're interested please get in touch, we may be persuaded!!
Norman Harvey, who most of you will probably remember, used to supply vehicles for filming, is now well and truly retired. He is passing his time painting and helping with a charity in Tanzania. Norman worked on many well known productions such as "Monarch of the Glen", "Doctor Finlays Casebook" and "The Magdalene Sisters" to name but a few.
Norman got in touch recently and we have now purchased a number of props from him including a collection of period bicycles and childrens scooters etc. These will shortly be going on the website and are available for hire.
Norman asked us to pass on his regards to everyone he has worked with in the past.
2009 has been a bumper year for Action Vehicle Agency. In November we provided precision driving services for a major production being filmed in the Highlands.
December has seen us supply a VW Beetle for a major new BBC production currently being filmed in Glasgow and a Morris Marina estate at Edinburgh airport for a nationwide TV ad soon to be screened.
In all we have provided almost 200 vehicles for various productions this year and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been involved with us.
We are looking forward to 2010 and will hopefully be able to build on the success of 2009.
We've just finished working on a production called "Day of the Flowers". A bit of a departure for the agency as it's set in modern day and involved a number of upmarket luxury vehicles as well as 2 Mini Coopers and a moped.
One of the Mini's and the moped were involved in a stunt in Glasgow city centre on a busy Friday afternoon which brought the area to a bit of a standstill!
2009 has been a bumper year for Action Vehicle Agency with over 150 customers vehicles supplied so far for various productions.
We have been filming in and around the Glasgow area during July and August for a major feature film set in the early seventies and due for release next year. Action Vehicle Agency were proud to have supplied over 70 vehicles including cars, vans, trucks and even a Glasgow Corporation bus. Police cars were also required and we sourced 2 Rover P6's which were marked up in "City of Glasgow" livery. Check out the picture on our Gallery front page.
In early September we headed north to Dornoch in Sutherland where we had been invited to supply 3 Edwardian vehicles for a prestigious private party at an exclusive Hotel in the area. Action Vehicle Agency provided a 1913 Darracq, a 1912 Austin 15 and a 1912 Ford Model T. Despite the horrendous weather the cars provided sterling service ferrying guests from the golf club to the hotel.
You will no doubt have noticed that we now have a new, long awaited, website heading in place. This makes the site more professional looking and matches the new business cards that we have had printed. Many more images have been added to our galleries and our database is constantly increasing.
Thanks to all of you who have got in touch recently and I will be getting to work updating the site.
The French production is going well. We had 14 cars and a London bus out in Edinburgh last week and it made a pretty impressive site transforming a part of the new town back to 1962. That production finishes this weekend and then its straight into a film set in 1974 which goes into production in early July. We need well over 50 vehicles for that one and things are progressing well, however if you have something that you may think is suitable then please get in touch.
Sorry that I haven't posted anything lately or updated the galleries but things have been extremely busy recently.
We are currently working with a German production company who are filming a 3 hour drama in the Scottish borders and Edinburgh area. It is set in modern day but some of the more interesting vehicles involved are a 1977 Aston Martin V8, a Porsche Boxster and a Unimog snowplough!!
Immediately after that we start work with a French production company who are making a film set in 1962. We are supplying well over 30 vehicles including taxi's trucks and buses for that one.
So 2009 has started off well and hopefully things will continue well for the rest of the year.
Thanks to everyone who has got involved so far and I intend to get the website updated soon as we have a number of new vehicles to display.
Just to let you all know that "Stone of Destiny" is released on DVD on 23rd. March.
This was the first production that I was involved in and was filmed in Scotland during the summer of 2007. I was able to source and supply over 50 vehicles so even if you weren't involved you will no doubt be able to spot one or two vehicles you know of as they were all Scottish based.
Unfortunately it didn't do too well at the box office. It was, however, apparently quite successful in Canada where the director, Charles Martin Smith is from.
My wife and I were fortunate enough to get tickets for the premiere at the Edinburgh Film Festival and I quite enjoyed it so I'll probably buy a copy of the DVD.
A couple of things that I wasn't too happy about were the fact that they added modern day sirens to the soundtrack in the police car scenes. During filming I had quite a job trying to convince the director that police cars just didn't have blue lights and sirens in 1950. It wouldn't have been as bad if they just added a bell to the soundtrack but a siren was totally out of place. Even worse though, they spelt my name wrong in the final credits!!! ah well if it makes me famous I may just have to change my surname to Binnie! I very much doubt it though.
We are currently looking for a Ford Squire in any colour and condition for a forthcoming production. The Ford Squire was the estate version of the 100E Anglia. It had quite a short production run from 1955 until 1959 with just under 18,000 being produced. These models are now quite rare. We would be prepared to buy if necessary. If you can help please get in touch.
Well we are currently sitting at over 50 potential vehicles for this project but I still need more!! Filming will be in the Edinburgh, Glasgow, Fife and Borders areas and will run from 18.05 until 06.06. If you think that you can help we would really like to hear from you.
I have been asked to supply a large number of vehicles for a production which is due to commence filming in Scotland in mid May. The film is set in 1962 and to this end I am looking for cars, vans, lorries and motorbikes. The vehicles require to be 50's and early 60's. If your vehicle is younger than '62 I may still be interested as long as it was a model in production in '62. You can email me or give me a call if you can help out. Many thanks
The new website is now up and running as you can see and feedback so far has been very encouraging. I am aware that I need to carry out some fine tuning and I am working on that. I have also registered a new domain name www.actionvehicleagency.co.uk This will run in conjunction with Classic Co-ordination. The new name does what it says on the box but more importantly I think it will be easier to enter.
I am looking for us much feedback as possible on the site so please feel free to contact me with any criticism you may have.
2008 was my first full year in operation
In January I provided some modern vehicle for the BBC production of God on Trial. This was a one day job. The scene was supposed to be outside the Auschwitz Museum in Poland. Filming however took place just outside Glasgow. I supplied everyday vehicles such as a Citroen ZX, Peugeot people carrier etc. One stipulation however was a Skoda and I was able to supply an original 1986 Skoda Estelle (when did you last see one of those!!)
I was asked if I could supply an Aston Martin DB5 and do the precision driving for an Aston Martin DBS "Power Soul Beauty" commercial which was being partly shot in Scotland for the Kuwaiti market. Early February saw us at the Rest & be Thankful in Argyll for a days fiming with the cars. Aston Martin supplied the 2 new cars and I sourced the DB5. The director got what he came to Scotland for... Clear blue skies, great dry roads and stunning snow capped hills, although it was damned cold. Day 2 saw us at Kinloch Rannoch filming in the shadow of schehallion.
In March I was contacted by the production manager for the Volvo XC90 "Stormy Night" commercial and asked if I would be interested in doing some precision driving. I agreed to this and then was contacted again and asked if I would be interested in an acting role. I agreed to this and was asked to go for an audition. The audition consisted of me sitting in a seat in front of a camera. I was asked to imagine I was the captain of a lifeboat and I was driving my car to an emergency call. I had to look concerned as I didn't know what I would find when I got there. Hard for a retired traffic cop who found himself in that situation nearly every working day!! Anyway I got the job and spent 5 fantastic days filming on the Isle of Skye.
In April I was contacted by an art director who was working on a docudrama called "The Harris Tweed Story" This is a story of the history of the material Harris Tweed and was to be shot during the first 3 weeks of June at various locations throughout Scotland. he had a "wish list" of vehicles he required. This included carriages, vehicles from the turn of the century to modern day, boats and even a plane. As usual, however, this list was pared down as the weeks progressed. We started filming at Inveraray
